June 9th

We left Casa Carmen with a balmy 42 degrees and overcast skies. We needed to be in Portomarin in time for the 12:30 Mass so we had to book it. We walked 10 miles, going up and down hills, in 4 1/2 hours including stops. We did pass the waymarker indicating 100km to Santiago!! As of tonight we have 58.8 miles to go and 4 days to do it in. There has definitely been an increase in the number of pilgrims on the trail which at times can be distracting as the noise level has increased!!

The pictures are of our way to Portomarin and of the city itself. It’s located on a beautiful river but with very steep streets! Keep us in your prayers as you are in mine.

Again having difficulty downloading pictures. Will try again tomorrow.

June 8th

We left Triacastela with the temp a brisk 38 degrees but with sunny skies. With the steep ascent we quickly warmed up. We meet back up with the father, son, nephew trio and I was able to get a picture of Liz with them. The vistas continue to be incredible and my legs seem to be adjusting to the ups and downs. We made it into Sarriá around noon and had some delicious hamburgers with a girl we had met earlier from Australia, along with another woman who had just arrived in Sarriá to start her journey. In order to earn your credentials you have to walk 100 km. Sarriá is 117 km from Santiago so many people start their journey here. It’s a very big town so Liz and walked another 2 1/2 miles (for a total of 13.8 miles) to the next little village to Albergue Casa Carmen. It is located on top of a mountain and is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately I can’t download pictures as the WiFi is too weak, so you will have to wait until tomorrow. Keep us in your prayers as you are in mine.
